The postdoctoral fellow position is a research-oriented role that offers individuals who have recently completed their doctoral studies the opportunity to gain further experience and develop their skills in a specific field. The University of Alberta provides the Alberta Machine Intelligence Insitute Postdoctoral Fellows for 2023-2024, which comes with a comprehensive benefits package.

The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) together with the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta opens its postdoctoral fellow. The University of Alberta seeks a postdoctoral fellow to work with Amii Fellow Professor Osmar Zaiane in Artificial Intelligence research. Immediate opening available.

The postdoctoral position is available for an immediate start, and the term of the position will be for two years, contingent upon satisfactory performance. The University is looking for a postdoctoral fellow who aims to conduct research projects that will focus on Machine Malfunction Prediction and Machine Adaptation using Machine Learning.

The project aims to develop automated methods for predicting machine failures and devising strategies for adapting malfunctioning machines to continue their operation until maintenance can be carried out. The research will employ Machine Learning and Data Mining techniques, with a particular emphasis on Reinforcement Learning. To qualify for this position, applicants should have significant experience and expertise in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and GFlowNets.

Eligibility 

The applicants must meet the following criteria before proceeding with the application.

  • The applicants must be a Ph.D. degree in the fields of computer science and other related fields.
  • A background in at least one of the following scientific areas is necessary: Reinforcement Learning, Robotics, and Machine Learning.
  • The applicants must have strong programming skills in C/C++, Java, and Python.
  • Skills in System implementation and software development
  • The applicants must have good communication skills in oral and written English.
  • Must be proactive and self-motivated
  • Must be collaborative in interdisciplinary work
