About the Scholarship Provider:
Although it has its origins in Africa, Stellenbosch University (SU) has expanded its influence around the world. The mission of the University of Cape Town during the course of the past century has been to establish itself as a frontrunner among universities on the African continent that place a strong emphasis on research; to earn a reputation on a global scale as being outstanding, welcoming, and forward-thinking; and to serve as a site at which knowledge is advanced for the sake of societal advancement. Its mission is to serve as a focal point for the expansion of knowledge for the general good of society. SU is a well regarded educational establishment that places a strong emphasis on academic research. As a result, it is able to recruit the most talented students and staff members. It is a global hub, and as such, it simultaneously improves and reshapes communities on a local, regional, and global scale. This is a unique site. The University bases its decisions on its core values, which are quality, compassion, equity, and accountability. These values guide the University in everything it does. The promotion of mutual respect and comprehension is the third principle that underpins the University’s goal. The first three principles of the SU ethics code are of equal significance and are intricately interwoven with one another.
The State University of New York (SU) was established on April 2, 1918, with a total of 503 students, 40 faculty members, and four faculties (arts, science, education, and agriculture). At SU, there are more than 32,000 students participating in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Of these students, more than 4,000 are international students hailing from over one hundred different countries. The university’s ten faculties are spread across five campuses. The institution has a total workforce of over 3,300 full-time employees in addition to 352 postdoctoral fellows.
Stellenbosch University (SU) plans to foster a flourishing Stellenbosch University by implementing its Vision 2040 and a strategic framework in 2018. The university also intends to provide an impactful student experience, foster meaningful partnerships and inclusive networks, promote networked and collaborative teaching and learning, conduct research with a positive social impact, and position SU as an employer of choice. With about fifty research and service divisions, as well as ten primary faculties that are dispersed across five campuses, Stellenbosch University is able to provide a diverse selection of educational opportunities. Because of this, the university has earned a reputation for being one of the most prestigious institutions in the world for conducting cutting-edge and pertinent research on Africa. The university is home to around 25 000 students from South Africa as well as 3 000 students from other countries. Additionally, the university is staffed by 939 members of the faculty and staff who come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and academic fields of study. The majority of classes and courses at this university are offered in either English or Afrikaans, despite the fact that the Afrikaans language is the primary medium of instruction here. As a direct consequence of this, students from all over Southern Africa and even further afield are now able to attend the university.
Since 2011, the “Research Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction (RADAR)” has called the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Stellenbosch University its home. This organization serves as the headquarters for both the secretariat and the project manager for the Periperi U partnership. It plays the role of a liaison when it comes to coordinating the attendance of delegates at international conferences and the organization of meetings between various partners.
