The Ron Brown Scholars Program (RBSP) is interested in high school students who do not have the financial means to enter college after graduation.

However, such high school seniors must demonstrate that they are useful to the community, desirous of public service, entrepreneurs, and citizens of the world. These qualities make scholar Ron Brown summarize the four pillars of the late Ronald H. Brown’s mission.

The Ron Brown Scholar Fund is a 501(c)3 public charity, administered by an independent Board of Trustees. The scholarship is in memory of the late Ronald H Brown, famous for his dedication to public service. Therefore, the academic program focuses on encouraging civic engagement among scholars while promoting academic excellence, community, and lifelong interactions.

In addition to this, the Ron Brown Scholarship Program provides financially needy scholars with the financial resources necessary to attend some of the best colleges and universities in the country. Students who qualify for the scholarship receive $40,000 for the duration of their bachelor’s program – four (4) years.

Additionally, students who qualify for the Ron Brown Scholarship receive the education and mentoring to succeed and thrive in college and beyond.

Packed with all of these benefits, the Ron Brown Scholar Program has a proven track record of academic success. The program has a 99 percent graduation rate, and graduate students go on to outstanding careers in technology, letters, science, and public service. Several others are pursuing professional degrees in law, medicine, and business administration.

What is the Ron Brown Scholarship Deadline?

The Ron Brown Scholarships open in August every year. If you complete and submit your application before November 1, you will be given early consideration.

However, you have until January 1 to complete and submit your Ron Brown Scholarship application.

The Ron Brown Scholarship Committee will not consider any scholarship application submitted after January 1 of any year.

Ron Brown Scholarship FAQ

You must mail the application materials in one package. You should also not submit transcripts and letters of recommendation on a separate cover page. Additionally, RBSP will not consider incomplete applications submitted by email or fax.

RBSP requests two letters of recommendation. Your high school counselor, teacher, or principal should write at least one of these.

Anyone who knows you well and can vouch for her character, leadership ability, commitment to community service, or academic achievements can submit the second letter. This person can be your employer, coach, or mentor. However, it cannot be your mother, father, or guardian.

RBSP requires SAT (Verbal and Math) or ACT (composite) scores. SAT II (Subject Tests) and AP exam scores are optional. Record the required grades on page 1 of your application in case they do not appear on your high school transcript.

RBSP requires two essays, each of approximately 500 words. In the first essay, you have to answer a specific question. The second essay can be on any topic. If you haven’t written one for a college application, you can submit an essay you wrote for one of your classes or write a new essay.

Also, keep in mind that essays are an opportunity for you to tell RBSP something about yourself that they cannot learn from your transcript, test scores, or other application materials. RBSP requires two essays, each of approximately 500 words.

You can use the Rob Brown Scholarship at any accredited four-year degree-granting university in the United States. Also, you can study any academic discipline of your choice with a scholarship. However, you cannot use the scholarship for vocational or technical training.
