The Skills for Women in Technology – British Council program is one of the components of the British Council’s global program “Going Global Partnerships” that seeks to build more inclusive, strong, and international Higher Education and Technical systems to support development socioeconomic status of their regions.

Focused on the Technology Industry, the Skills for Women in Technology – Mexico program seeks to improve the employability of 350 women within STEM careers for the technology industry.

There is a proven underrepresentation of women in the technology industry (which is the highest-paid labor market). Women who pursue a career in the IT industry are the most likely to drop out.

According to a study carried out by Accenture and Girls Who Code “it showed that 50% of women abandon technology careers at the age of 35 years and that women abandoning roles in technology have a 45% higher rate than men”.

According to the same research, exclusive training for women in technological skills is a way to create a supportive and more inclusive environment, free from implicit or explicit gender discrimination.
Private training or non-profit organizations, known as boot camps, have emerged as a mechanism to alleviate the shortage of human capital in the digital space.

As Innovation Barometer 2018 underlines, there is currently a lot of concern among business leaders about the shortage of human capital, which has the necessary digital skills to support digital transformation and innovation in companies.
