About the Scholarship
For the academic Year of 2022-2023, the University of Maine offers the Marisue and John Pickering Scholarships which are open for international students who will undertake their undergraduate and graduate degree in an eligible course offered by the university.
The scholarship was established in the Year 1993 at the University of Maine and was a gift from Marisue and John Pickering. The scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to students who have completed their secondary school outside the country of the United States. The scholarship will be given to the students who have graduated from a secondary school in the following countries:
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Bulgaria
- Balkan Peninsula
- Croatia
- Albania
- Montenegro
- Macedonia
- Kosovo

About the Providers
The Marisue and John Pickering
The Pickerings began to work actively moving to Orono and raising two sons, David and Paul. John is an educator who has taught and worked with elementary through high school students, and Marisue is Professor Emeritus, Communication and Conflict Studies at the University of Maine. In addition to his work as a teacher, he worked in the central administration of UMaine for 10 years. During their professional career, Marisue and John are professional experts, publish books and articles in their fields, and advertise domestically and abroad.

Eligibility
Before proceeding with the scholarship application, the students must meet the eligibility of the scholarship.
- The students must be classified as international paying fee students, who will be undertaking full-time undergraduate or graduate students at the University of Maine.
- Must be graduated from high school in the following country: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Macedonia.
- Must have good communication skills in oral and written English, and have met the English Proficiency requirements for admission.
Application Process
Applicants must complete their application to an online portal provided by the University of Maine and must be able to submit the required documents for admission.

Admission is possible for students who do not meet the language requirements but have good academic results. Eligible students are enrolled in the school’s Intensive English Institute to take appropriate English lessons until they are sufficiently proficient in English.

Continue to monitor your support status through MaineStreet’s Self-Service Center to ensure that all support information is received.
Scholarship Award
The University of Maine will be covering the international tuition fee of every successful student who will be receiving the International Undergraduate and Graduate Marisue and John Pickering Scholarships.
The scholarship award will be granted for the academic year of 2022-2023, the successful students must read and agree to the terms and conditions applied for the scholarship.
Scholarship Deadline
The deadline to complete and submit the application is until November 1, 2022. All late and incomplete applications will be automatically rejected. However, the scholarship will be offered annually.
