Scholarships for university students in Uruguay are offered through the Central Service for Inclusion and Welfare (SCIBU). There is the possibility of being the recipient of different types of scholarships aimed at Udelar students from all over the country. Students entering Udelar for the first time in 2022 can apply for scholarships between February 21 and March 31, 2022.

During this period, all scholarships offered by the Service can be applied for: financial support, accommodation, food, discounts on interdepartmental tickets, childcare, transportation, study materials, and laptop scholarship.

Students who enter Udelar in 2022 may apply for SCIBU scholarships after enrolling at the University of the Republic.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND ACCESS CATEGORIES

You must apply for scholarships in the Student Portal in the periods according to your access category.

The first step will be to complete the online registration form. It is suggested to read the instructions detailing the documentation that must be presented in the Administration office that corresponds to your department of studies.

ACCESS CATEGORIES

3 access categories are established depending on your specific situation:

a. Income: The “income” category includes those students who enter the University of the Republic for the first time. If you belong to this category, you must apply for scholarships during the month of March.

b. First time studying: This category brings together students who apply for the scholarship for the first time but who are already studying at the University. Also included in this category are those students who did not have a scholarship the previous year, despite having had one at some point during their career. Scholarship applications for this category are made in the months of October and November.

c. Renewal: This category includes those students who had the scholarship during the previous year. Scholarship applications for this category are made in the months of October and November.

TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS

1. FINANCIAL SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIP

It is an economic scholarship financed by University Welfare. The amount of the scholarship is equivalent to 2 BPC (Benefits and Contributions Base) and is awarded monthly from May to December for those who access it for the first time and from March to December for those who renew it.

Those who are enjoying an economic scholarship from another institution, whose amount is greater than 1/2 BPC, will not be able to access this benefit.

2. ACCOMMODATION SCHOLARSHIP

This is an economic scholarship financed by University Welfare and the Ministry of Housing, Territorial Planning and the Environment (MVOTMA).

The amount of the scholarship is equivalent to 2 BPC and is awarded monthly from May to December for those who access it for the first time and from March to December for those who renew it.

Those students who prove they have to face an accommodation expense in the locality in which they study and that does not coincide with the locality of their family nucleus will be able to access. Those who are enjoying a housing scholarship from another institution, whether public or private, will not be able to access it.

3. FOOD SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship consists of providing lunch and/or dinner services in the University Dining Rooms and decentralized canteens in Montevideo and in some branches of the Regional University Centers (in agreement with Bienestar University)

The Food Service is organized by the Canteens Management and a team of professionals who guarantee an adequate nutritional balance.

4. DISCOUNT ON INTERDEPARTMENTAL TICKETS

Consists of an additional 10% discount which is added to the 20% provided by the National Association of Road Transport Companies (ANETRA).

Students who prove that they have studied in a department other than that of your family unit and at a distance greater than 60 km.

5. EDUCATIONAL ACCESSIBILITY SCHOLARSHIPS

There are three types of scholarships within this category, each scholarship has specific requirements for access, they are:

5.1. NURSERY SCHOLARSHIP

It consists of an economic scholarship, the amount of which is equivalent to 2 BPC (Benefits and Contributions Base) Students who have children from 0 to 3 years old under their custody or minors whose custody corresponds to them by law or by judicial sentence and that require the hiring of a nursery (qualified by the Ministry of Education and Culture) to be able to attend the university educational center or carry out other academic activities to be developed in the Udelar.

The registration and attendance of the child in the nursery must be verified in the periods defined by University Welfare. Students who are benefiting from a nursery scholarship from another institution will not be able to access this scholarship.

5.2. TRANSPORT SCHOLARSHIP

It consists of an economic scholarship, whose amount is equivalent to ¼ BPC (Benefits and Contributions Base). It is aimed at students who live in localities that require interdepartmental journeys of less than 60 km, or suburban transport that does not have public subsidies.

It is also intended for students whose disability situation makes it difficult for them to be able to attend the university educational center or carry out other academic activities to be carried out at Udelar.

5.3. STUDY MATERIALS SCHOLARSHIP

It consists of an economic scholarship, whose amount is equivalent to ½ BPC (Benefits and Contributions Base). It is aimed at covering the needs for the purchase of materials in relation to the requirements of the courses in progress or required academic activities.

6. LAPTOP SCHOLARSHIP
It is a scholarship aimed at applicants for University Welfare scholarships who do not have the conditions to access teaching activities virtually. The benefit consists of the annual loan of a piece of equipment.
