The University of South Wales is a popular choice among Ugandan students and the institution has been visited by Ugandan students as well as hosting students from other countries on its campuses for many years. The University of South Wales has made some international scholarships available for Ugandan students to take advantage of.
Self-funded Ugandan students studying at undergraduate level can also take advantage of their guaranteed Chancellor’s International Development Scholarships of £2,500 per year!
Ugandan students appreciate the scholarships offered by the University and have enjoyed the high standard of living but the relatively low cost that South Wales offers.

The University of South Wales offers self-financing scholarships for international students
As an applicant, you will automatically be considered for one of these awards when we receive your application.
You do not need to apply separately and confirmation of the scholarship will be included in your offer letter.
Undergraduate Courses – £1,500 per year
Postgraduate Courses – £2,000
Master of Business Administration (MBA) – £1,500
Chancellor’s International Development Scholarships
You will receive confirmation of any scholarship with your offer letter.
Applicants must pay the minimum deposit stipulated in the offer letter by the date indicated in the Acceptance Form to obtain their scholarship.
Scholarships do not apply to IFP, English courses, or placement years.
Government or company-sponsored students are not eligible for scholarships.
International Development Scholarships Scholarships
The £2,500 International Development Scholarships for Undergraduates are available to students from the following categories:
Countries:
This scholarship would replace the standard £1,500 undergraduate scholarship and is available only to those students studying for a full degree bachelor’s degree
Higher National Diploma students and Foundation Degree students are not eligible for the Chancellor’s International Development Scholarship.
You will automatically be considered for a scholarship when you apply. You do not need to make a separate scholarship application.
You will receive confirmation of a scholarship with your offer letter.
Scholarships and discounts do not apply to sponsored students or those studying a placement year, the IFP or English Language Programs
Scholarships can be withdrawn if the conditions of the scholarships are not met.
International Scholarships for BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Top-Up
Please note that the standard international scholarship for the 180 credit BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Top Up is £2,250.
Students eligible for the Chancellor’s Development Scholarship may be considered for a £3,750 scholarship for this particular undergraduate program.

Scholarship requirements
Foundation entrance requirements
- The International Foundation Year (Intensive English) is available to those who have an average grade of C or 6 or higher on the East African Certificate of Education (EACE) / Cambridge Overseas School Certificate (COSC) / Certificate of Uganda (UCE)) and have an IELTS score of 5.0 progressing to your university degree.
- Students who have a good level of English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) will be considered for our Faculty years.
Undergraduate Entry Requirements
English requirements
Proficiency in English is essential for undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognizes the following qualifications in English:
- COSC/GCSE/O-Level English Language Grade C or above
- IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)
Don’t worry if you don’t meet these requirements, as we offer a variety of English courses.
Academic Qualifications
- Applicants who have followed the A-level curriculum may be considered for university entry; the normal UCAS rate will apply
- Applicants who have followed the IB Diploma curriculum may be considered for entry to the bachelor’s degree; the normal UCAS rate will apply
- Applicants with an East African Advanced Education Certificate will be considered on the same basis as A Level in the UK
- Undergraduate Applicants: Applicants with an Uganda Certificate of Advanced Education will be considered on the same basis as UK A-level applicants for admission to the university.
- Applicants with a Cambridge Overseas High School Certificate (COHSC) will be considered on the same basis as UK A-level applicants for admission to the university.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements
Proficiency in English is essential for postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognizes the following qualifications in English:
- COSC/GCSE/O-Level English at grade C or higher
- Postgraduate study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the standard University requirements. See the course page for more information.

- Bachelor/Bachelor degree with a score of 12-13 (as well as assez) and above can be admitted to a relevant postgraduate course.

University of South Wales International Scholarships -FAQs
UK students can study for free in 11 countries. If home students pay no fee, UK students are also entitled to study for free. In total, 10 EU countries, as well as Norway, do not charge tuition fees for undergraduate students.
Tuition at Welsh universities is slightly (and we mean slightly) cheaper than in England, with the annual cap for UK and EU students at £9,000 (in England it’s £9,250). International students can expect to pay more than UK and EU students, typically £13,000/year and up.
