There are many interesting scholarships for women to study abroad that are available in a variety of disciplines and countries. This article aims to highlight the various international scholarships for women to study abroad that can be pursued by women who are interested in furthering their education. Women-only international scholarships are intended to encourage female students to pursue higher education in fields such as finance, computer science, information technology, science, mathematics, and international business.

Below is a current list of scholarships available to women from all over the world (undergraduate, master’s, MBA, and PhD).

1.  American Association of University Women (AAUW) Scholarship

The International Fellowships of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) were created to give Latin American women the opportunity to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies in the United States. Women from all over the world can now apply for fellowships in the program. AAUW has been investing in women who make an impact since 1888, making it one of the largest providers of funds for women’s graduate education.

International Fellowships are awarded by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to women who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States to pursue full-time study or research in the United States. Fellowships are available to study at accredited US educational institutions for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in the United States and must have applied to their institutions of choice at the time of application. For a second year, up to five international master’s or professional degree fellowships are renewable.

Candidates must have a strong academic record as well as a demonstrated commitment to women and girls. Recipients are expected to return to their home countries and become leaders in a variety of fields, including the arts, sciences, academia, business, government, and community activism.  AAUW members’ long-standing and generous contributions have helped a broader community of women gain access to educational and economic opportunities, breaking down barriers and ensuring that all women have a fair chance. Recipients of fellowships and grants conduct research in a variety of fields and work to improve their schools and communities. Their intellect, dedication, imagination, and effort have the potential to pave new academic paths, improve the quality of life for all, and address the educational and social barriers that women face around the world. AAUW is looking for a diverse group of applicants.

AAUW International Fellowships eligibility criteria

• Candidates must be citizens of a country other than the United States of America.
• A candidate’s academic degree must be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in the United States.
• During the fellowship year, you must enroll in a full-time program.
• Intend to return to her home country and continue her professional career there.
• Have a good command of the English language and must submit a TOEFL score or other English language test scores that the fellowship provider accepts.

2. L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science International Awards

 The International Awards L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science were established in 1998 to honor five outstanding women scientists from five different regions of the world each year. Every other year, these outstanding researchers are recognized for their significant contributions to the advancement of science, whether in the fields of life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, or computer science. Each of the five laureates is given a €100,000 prize by a jury of internationally renowned experts. UNESCO and the L’Oréal Foundation are committed to promoting women in science because they believe that the world needs science and that science needs women. The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program aims to accelerate the careers of women scientists and overcome the obstacles they face in order to make them more visible, recognize their talent, and inspire future generations to pursue careers in science. Since its inception in 1998, the For Women in Science programme has supported and honoured 122 laureates and over 3,800 talented young scientists, doctoral and post-doctoral students from over 115 countries. Through three areas of intervention, the L’Oréal Foundation is dedicated to assisting women in realizing their full potential, reclaiming control of their lives, and contributing to society: scientific research, beauty in solidarity, and climate change. Gender equality is a priority for UNESCO, the only UN specialized agency with a specific mandate in the sciences. It contributes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and assists developing countries in developing their scientific and technological capacity through its science programs.

According to the most recent UNESCO Science Report, published in June, the number of women pursuing scientific careers is increasing, but at a too slow pace: women account for just over 33% of researchers worldwide, and only 4% of Nobel prizes are awarded to women.

Eligibility: The candidate must be able to:

• To be recognized by the international scientific community for her scientific excellence,
• Work in any of the Life and Environmental Sciences listed in Appendix 1 and be actively involved in scientific research.
• For your information, there is no restriction on the candidate’s age.

Candidate Selection Criteria: The following are the candidate selection criteria:

• The candidate’s significant contribution to the advancement of science in general,
• The candidate’s research has had an impact on the current state of the relevant scientific field (number, quality and impact of publications, conference presentations, patents),
• -The recognition of the candidate’s commitments to education, teaching activities, mentoring, and/or the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals more broadly by peers within her discipline through publications, -The recognition of the candidate’s commitments to education, teaching activities, mentoring, and/or the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals more broadly.
• The L’Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science is not renewable.

3. FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship

The FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship is for female students who want to pursue postgraduate studies at internationally recognized universities.. The Women in Finance Scholarship is designed to encourage and support talented women in finance, particularly those interested in careers in financial asset management, market risk management, and derivatives finance in the capital markets. Every year, a US$20,000 award is given to one eligible woman to help support graduate-level studies in Finance, with half of the award going to the winner and the other half going to the educational institution to directly assist with tuition. The annual FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship was established by FINCAD every year. One eligible woman will receive a US$20,000 award to help support graduate-level studies in finance, with half of the award going to the winner and the other half going to the educational institution to directly assist with tuition.

Female citizens of all countries who are enrolled in a post-graduate program (Master’s or PhD) at an accredited university are encouraged to apply. The Women in Finance Scholarship is designed to encourage and support talented women in finance, particularly those interested in careers in financial asset management, market risk management, and derivatives finance in the capital markets.

Eligibility:

• The scholarship is open to women of any age or nationality who are pursuing a master’s degree in finance in an accredited graduate program.
• The scholarship will be given to a deserving applicant who is enrolled in a post-graduate program in finance, with a focus on derivatives in capital markets and/or financial risk management. DO NOT APPLY if your field of study does not fit that description.
• Except for university transcripts, all applications and supporting documents must be written in English.

4. Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG)

The Margaret McNamara Education Grants (formerly known as MMMF) is a public charity that awards grants to exceptional women from developing countries to study in the United States, Canada, and select universities in South Africa and Latin America. It was founded in 1981. Margaret McNamara’s vision of education and gender equality was the inspiration for MMEG.. Margaret McNamara Educational Grants; Margaret McNamara Educational Grants for African Women; Margaret McNamara Educational Grants for African The Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) program provides grants to women from developing countries to help them further their education and strengthen their leadership skills in order to improve the lives of women and children in those countries.

Around $15,000 in education grants are awarded to women from low- and middle-income countries who intend to return to or remain in their home countries, or other low- and middle-income countries, after completing their degree, and work to improve the lives of women and/or children. The mission of the MMEG is to support women from developing countries who are pursuing higher education in order to improve the lives of women and children in their communities. We are one of the few organizations that helps these women financially. Grants of up to $15,000 in the US/Canada program and $7,000 in the Africa, Latin America, and Trinity programs have been awarded in previous years. Margaret McNamara is a writer. Women from developing and middle-income countries who plan to return to or remain in their home countries, or other developing countries, after completing their education, to work to improve the lives of women and/or children, are eligible for education grants.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• At the time of the application deadline, you must be at least 25 years old (see specific regional program application below);
• Except for the Trinity Washington University program, be a citizen of one of the countries listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List.
• When submitting an application, be enrolled (not just accepted) at an accredited academic institution, and plan to remain enrolled for a full academic term after the Board awards the grant.
• Not be related to or married to a member of the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, or the Inter-American Development Bank;

5. Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Awards

Since its inception in 2004, the Faculty for the Future program has awarded fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or post-doctoral research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at top universities around the world. Each year, the Schlumberger Foundation awards Faculty for the Future fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies who are pursuing PhD or post-doctoral studies in physical sciences and related disciplines at top universities around the world. Grant recipients are chosen for both their leadership and scientific abilities, and they are expected to return to their home countries to continue their academic careers and inspire other young women. International students can apply for the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship 2022, which is a fully funded scholarship. This scholarship is worth a maximum of USD 50,000 per year for a PhD and USD 40,000 per year for a Post-doctoral researcher, and it can be renewed until the student completes their studies.

The long-term goal of the program is to accelerate gender equality in STEM by creating conditions that encourage more women to pursue scientific careers by removing some of the barriers that women face when enrolling in STEM programs. The program is dedicated to achieving gender equality in science and recognizes that full access to and participation in a STEM curriculum is critical for women’s and girls’ empowerment. The talent and capacities of these women can be developed for the benefit of their local communities, regions, and countries if gender equality in STEM is accelerated.

Eligibility

• Eligible Countries: All countries in the world. are a woman who lives in a developing or emerging economy*. If you have dual citizenship, one of which is in a developed country, you are ineligible to apply. (Note: If you receive a Faculty for the Future grant and then obtain citizenship in a developed country after receiving it, the grant will be terminated as of the date of such additional citizenship.)
• are pursuing a PhD or conducting post-doctoral research in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In the biological sciences, awards are only given for interdisciplinary research involving both physical and biological sciences. Master’s degree studies are not supported by the Faculty for the Future program.
• are enrolled, admitted, or have applied to an international host university or research institute (applications are no longer accepted where a candidate has not yet applied to a university). If you are applying for a sandwich course, the final degree must be awarded by the Host University abroad (rather than by the university in your home country);
• have a strong academic record;
• have a demonstrated commitment to teaching or have a proven track record of teaching experience;
• can show active PARTICIPATION in faculty life and outreach programs aimed at encouraging young women to pursue careers in science;
• are willing to contribute to the socioeconomic development of your home country and region by strengthening the faculties at your home university, conducting relevant research, or applying your specialized knowledge to public policy issues

6. Durham University Hatfield Lioness Scholarship:

Hatfield College hopes to award the Lioness Scholarship to someone who possesses the academic and personal qualities necessary to complete and benefit from a postgraduate course, as well as someone who will act as a positive ambassador for their home country in Durham, putting their enhanced knowledge and skills gained from the master’s program and their experience in Durham to good use for the benefit of their society when they return home.

The scholarship was established as part of Hatfield College’s 30th anniversary celebration of female students, and it is funded by alumni, friends of the College, and other sources who support the scholarship’s goals.

Eligibility

• All countries in the world are eligible.
• Applicants must not be receiving any other funding for their postgraduate studies.
• By the end of June 2022, applicants must have applied for and been offered an unconditional spot in their desired master’s program.
• Hold a relevant honors degree of sufficient caliber to be admitted to the Master’s program of your choice.
• Not a Master’s degree holder.
• Have completed all other course prerequisites, including the required English language proficiency.
• Not otherwise be able to afford to study for a Master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

These are just a few examples of the many scholarships available to women. The truth is that there are numerous ways for women to receive financial assistance with their education. The most important rule is to keep looking for the best option, to keep applying, and to never give up. Women are seeing the world open up to them, creating truly equal opportunities for those who are willing to take risks. With that said, we wish you the best of luck in your academic endeavors. Education, internships, and volunteer opportunities are all included because they are all excellent ways to build a resume that will appeal to potential employers. Women are making significant progress in the workplace, but they still lag behind their male counterparts in terms of earning potential and the types of positions to which they can aspire. Individuals can use international grants and scholarships to pursue their interests in promoting global understandings and initiatives, to pursue careers that would otherwise be out of reach, and to build interesting resumes that attract prospective employers. The education and experience gained through these one-of-a-kind programs will help participants advance in their careers.
